Ok, So I have a canon optura 10. And my dilemma, is that I have recorder skate footage on my mini dv tape. The only thing is, my computer is not reading my camcorder. I have firewire to usb, and whenever I plug the camera in, and put it on playback mode, the camera says "DV IN", but my computer says that the usb is not recognized. So what I did was ignore it, and went to windows movie maker, and just pressed capture footage. However, it says "A video capture device was not detected, verify that a device is turned on and connected properly, and then try again". PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!
FireWire-to-USB does not work for video. You must have FireWire on both ends.
Is there any kind of FireWire port on your computer? If not, is there any kind of expansion card slot? If there’s a slot, you’ll need to purchase and install a FireWire card to fit it.
The only other way is to borrow someone else’s computer, or to settle for a lower-quality USB converter like the Dazzle.
where i can find any of these camcorders for the cheapest price i can possibly buy them, either new or like new? or any of equal quality that might be cheaper?

that’s not ebay, or amazon? cuz i already know about there.
I use pricegrabber.com for most of my online shopping – for example, here’s the search result for the Canon ZR830:

I also use resellerratings.com to check on the sellers – for example, here’s the rating for Amazon.com:

Hi!
I am part of the vastly growing "Youtube generation". I have done some minor video projects before, but I am thinking of expanding onto youtube and buying an new camcorder.
Here are the two I am between:
Canon Optura 100
Canon HV10
The Canon Optura is not HD, but still has an impressive picture. The Canon HV10 is HD, and has an even better picture, but costs a good $300 more. While I am willing to pay the money, I need to know if its worth it to buy an HD camcorder for youtube. Can youtube play HD?
Please note that I do not have an HDTV or any other appliance that plays HD.
If you are planning on making small video projects and youtube videos, I recommend you buy the Optura. I have heard good things about the Optura (it even has a 1/3" CCD), and Youtube doesn't even have HD capabilities anyway. You probably won't even be able to take advantage of HD features anyway for a couple years due to the fact that it is still new and being developed. Don't get me wrong, the HV10 is still a nice camera, but Internet and Youtube videos are highly compressed and you will not tell the difference between SD and HD.
If I were you, I would save the extra $300 and spend it on audio equipment or something, considering the Optura has a microphone input. They say that audio is just as important as video.
Edit: Also, there is no point in an HD camera if you have no HDTV, because the only difference between HD and SD is resolution, so HD video on an SD tv would look no different than SD video on an SD tv. There's also the HD-DVD that you have to buy, too…

When I play back movies from my Canon Optura 50 on my computer using Windows Movie Maker 2 – all the sound only comes through one of the two speakers-
I have been filming musicians solo and using one shot-gun boom mic made for mini DV camcorders-
should I bee using two or am I overlooking something else?
Can anyone help me here? – probably a really dumb problem-
If you are using a mono microphone you will record on only one channel. If you want stereo you need a stereo microphone or two mono microphones. You can copy the one channel you are recording to the other channel after you transfer the video to your computer. The sound will be mono but from both speakers.
